Every good play is full of problems and questions. The problems can be as simple as "he needs to buy new shoes" or as big as "She hates her life". Often, problems generate questions: what is she going to do about hating her life? Or, the audience can be kept engaged with simpler ones: "what is he hiding?". This workshop will explore how important problems and questions are for strengthening your scene work and can actually be key to helping you plot and develop initial seeds of ideas. We will look at some plays, including opening scenes from Edward Albee and Annie Baker plays, then open the floor if anyone wants to share current work.
Sophia is a writer and teacher from London. Her play THIS MIGHT NOT BE IT was shortlisted for the Women's Prize for Playwriting (2020). In 2024, Sophia was selected for the BBC's Writers Pilot cohort, a year long scheme partnering writers with production companies for the opportunity to write the first episode of a potential BBC commissioned original drama series or serial.
