NY-based US piano star Dave Frank is one of the busiest solo jazz pianists and music educators on the scene today. As a performer he has been featured in a wide variety of gigs and festivals around the US and beyond, is a jazz ambassador to the US State Department and has been regularly seen on the BET Jazz Network as well as the subject of feature articles in the Boston Globe, Keyboard Magazine, and The Chronicle of Higher Learning. One of the last pupils of the legendary piano great Lennie Tristano, Dave was an Associate Professor of piano at Berklee College of Music in Boston, was a co-founder of the New York School of Jazz and currently directs his own Dave Frank School of Jazz.
For this show Dave will be performing two sets, the first a solo recital featuring his unique presentation of solo piano styles along with music recorded on his "Ballads and Burners" album. The second set will see Dave teaming up with the UK-born New York-based guitarist Peter Rubie. A regular at the "old" 606 Club in the Kings Road Peter moved to NY in 1980, since when he has been seen with the likes of Jack Wilkins, Peter Bernstein, George Coleman, Junior Cook, Warne Marsh & Adelaide Hall. He can often be found playing gigs around New York City and has had a weekly residency for several years at Tartina restaurant on the upper west side of Manhattan. Dave and Peter will feature rare material from the Lennie Tristano songbook, with a focus on contrapuntal improvisation.
