This workshop will use The LeftBehinds co-created by Ross Willis and Ned Bennett. The LeftBehinds is a Sci-Fi Western that was commissioned for the National Theatre's Secondary Schools Tour in 2025. The workshop will look at approaches for staging bombastic, high-action stage directions. By placing an emphasis on an active, collaborative process with a conscious approach to integrating different production elements (primarily movement and design)- the exercises will look at how balance can be found between expressionism and narrative clarity. The workshop will cover: An Introduction to Viewpoints (improvisational movement methodology) Exercises for making material for staging complex sequences Exercises for editing work in a rehearsal process Participants will be asked to read the one-act script in advance of the workshop. This intensive day will take place at Theatre503's new space – the 503Studio in Nine Elms.
