The first of a series of concerts planned to feature great jazz musicians from Lithuania, and to this end we have put together a brand new formation, the Steve Rubie/Quentin Collins Quintet, to highlight the talents of the excellent Lithuanian pianist Dmitrij Golovanov. For almost two decades Quentin Collins has had an enviable reputation as a lyrical and melodic trumpet player with a powerful sound and approach. HHe includes work with the likes of Jeff Beck and Roy Ayres but these days is probably best known as a member of the internationally acclaimed Kyle Eastwood Band. Steve Rubie, who appears regularly at the Club with his Jazz/Brazilian band Samara, has been a mainstay of the UK Jazz scene, both as a sax/flute player and proprietor of the 606 Club, for well over 40 years. His cv includes work with the likes of Julian Joseph, Bheki Mseleku & Liane Carroll and in 2019 was honoured to receive the Musician's Company Jazz Lifetime Achievement Award. Dmitrij Golovanov is one of the most captivating and prolific jazz pianists, composers and teachers in Lithuania. A versatile musician Dmitrij moves freely between genres and projects, demonstrating equal skills on acoustic piano to contemporary electronica. One of the most influential and active figures in modern Lithuanian jazz he is the president of the Lithuanian Jazz Federation, a recipient of both Lithuanian and international awards, and rightly acclaimed as one of the best Lithuanian jazz pianists. Together this International quintet will perform a mix of originals from the band members alongside classic standards.
