Treyja (pronounced Tray-ah) was founded in 2023 by three top vocalists and composers from the UK jazz scene – Clare Wheeler, Sara Colman & Tara Minton – to explore the versatility of the vocal trio with all original compositions in luscious harmony! CLARE WHEELER: Clare grew up in the Classical and Jazz traditions, joining the 5-time Grammy Award winning vocal group The Swingles in 2007 and touring with them for 11 years. Whilst in the group she sang with artists such as Rumer, Jamie Cullum and Labrinth, and performed at prestigious venues such as La Scala and The Royal Albert Hall. Currently she is the Faculty Chair of jazz voice at the Jazz Department of the Guildhall, where she also directs the Vocal Jazz Ensemble. SARA COLMAN: An accomplished singer and songwriter, Sara was part of the vocal group The Passion with Liane Carroll & Jacqui Dankworth for ten years. She has made numerous festival appearances (Cheltenham, Manchester, Mostly Jazz, ReVoice, Sligo) and released several albums, including her latest "Ink on a Pin", with fresh arrangements of songs by Joni Mitchell performed by a 10-piece band. A finalist in the BBC Radio 2 "Sold on Song" songwriting competition and among an elite group of artists selected for the Jerwood series of Rising Star concerts, Sara is also a visiting tutor in contemporary vocal styles and songwriting at both Royal Birmingham Conservatoire & the Guildhall as well as leading the Jazzlines Summer School with Percy Pursglove. TARA MINTON is an Australian born harpist, vocalist and composer. Since establishing herself in the UK, she has worked with Björk, Tom Walker, ESKA, Stan Sulzmann, Emma Rawicz, Alice Zawadski & many many other top artists and was featured with 'The Ronnie Scott's All Stars' for their celebration of the music of Burt Bacharach, broadcast on the BBC in March 2025. In addition, she makes regular appearances with The Blues and Roots Ensemble and her own groups, as well as recording albums including her fourth, the "The Devil Invites You To Dance", composed during a visit to Mexico City. Tara also holds a master's degree in jazz performance from The Guildhall School of Music and Drama (sensing a theme here!). These outstanding vocalists will be joined on this occasion by Rebecca Nash-piano; Loz Garratt-bass and Jonah Evans-drums for what promises to be a glorious evening of harmony singing at its finest.
