How to write an intrinsically theatrical play. What is theatricality and how do we engage with the theatrical in our writing? What makes a play stand out as something that demands to be produced on stage?
This workshop explores the things that make a stage play a stage play. We will play with the devices of playwrights ancient and modern and engage with the question of what makes a play theatrical and how to write a play with an understanding of the live, shared experience. If you love what is different about theatre or if you have ever had anyone say to you that your play would work better as an audio drama or a TV script, this workshop will help you to understand why that might be.
By the end of this session, you will know a wide range of theatrical devices that you can experiment with in your own writing.
